Sample Starting Solids Schedules for 6+ months

If you’re looking sample daily routines and schedules for starting solids and baby-led weaning, you’re in the right place!

It is important to remember that milk is the primary source of nutrition for babies 0-12 months. Solids are considered a necessary complement 6+ months. By 12 months, the story flips - solids become the primary nutrition and milk/formula is either weaned or breastfeeding continues.

Our top tip is to offer solids to baby 1 hour after their milk feed from 6-9 months, and then after 9 months you can start to offer solids first.

We followed one baby from 6-12 months to develop these real-life schedules for naps, wake windows and mealtimes. This baby was formula-fed bottles throughout the day and continued to have night-wakings with milk feeds until age one. Your baby may be on a different schedule, and that’s OK!

These are meant to guide your journey, not say what your exact schedule needs to be. If you are not a parent who follows strict schedules, this page is not for you.
